.ON NOVEMBER 22ND Geert Wilders’s anti-immigrant Individual for Independence (PVV) completed initially in the Dutch basic political election, winning 37 of the 150 chairs in parliament, or even 23.6% of the ballot. His triumph was a large surprise. But the beneficiary of this particular abrupt turn to the difficult right is no upstart.
The 60-year-old Mr Wilders is actually the longest-serving MP in the Dutch parliament, having met 1998 as a participant of the centre-right Liberals (VVD). He gave up that celebration in 2004 over what he considered its gentleness towards Islam, as well as established the PVV in 2006.
